Naturalistically-carved overall, the back decorated with a crab and shells, lifting to reveal a pale ivory close-nailed cushioned silk back and seat, above a rocaille base carved with further shells

A related turtle-shaped seat is illustrated in D. Linley, Extraordinary Furniture, London, 1996, p. 166.
