The case of typical form, the chapter ring with Arabic numberals, pierced ormolu hands, signed on a separate cartouche L'AINÉ A PARIS, flanked by subsidiary rings indicating date and day of week, each with pierced ormolu hand, on arched support, marble plinth centred by an acorn-finial, with sunburst pendulum; pendulum and winding key

Lot Essay

Nicolas-Alexandre Folin, maître in 1784, is recorded working in Paris circa 1790-1795.

A comparable clock by Folin is illustrated in P. Kjellberg, Encyclopdie de la Pendule Française, Paris, 1997, p. 320, ill. A.
A similar clock by Folin was sold Sotheby's New York, Important French Furniture, sale 8362 9 November 2007, lot 152, 43,000 USD. And in these salerooms, 15 December 2009, lot 415, 39,400 EURO.
