Lot Essay

The London maker Philip Bell (fl. 1740-1774) sometimes favoured this foot profile, handle pattern and cornice design. See for instance figs. 95, 97, 99 and 101 in the Pictorial Dictionary of Marked London Furniture 1700-1840, London, 1996.
