Title-page with Rouillé's woodcut device (an eagle perched on a pedestal, wings outspread, flanked by two snakes), oval woodcut portrait of Giovio, several large initial capitals, 102 oval woodcut emblems (A few leaves lightly browned.) Contemporary vellum gilt, covers with large arabesque centerpieces, flat spine in five compartments, edges gilt and gauffered (lacks ties, one corner chipped, minor cockling and soiling). Provenance: Yemeniz, bookplate; Horace Walpole, 4th Earl of Orford, armorial bookplate; Olin Lane Merriam, bookplate; acquired from Seligmann, 1972. The woodcuts have been attributed to "the maitre à la Capeline." Not in Adams; Landwehr 345; Shaaber G-191.
