The rectangular white marble top with pierced gallery, above a two cupboard doors flanked by columns, over a fall-front frieze-drawer enclosing a green leather writing surface and four drawers, supported by gadrooned baluster columns and a shaped undertier with three-quarter gallery, twice stamped CHLES WINCKELSEN/21 Rue St Louis/(AU MARAIS)/1864

Lot Essay

The present bonheur du jour is based on a model by Adam Weisweiler. With its simplified form and refined bronze mounts - particularly the slender shaped column supports - it is emblematic of the great cabinetmaker's work. Weisweiler completed a number of versions of this model, occasionally embellishing the upper doors with porcelain plaques.
