(Slight spotting to first few leaves of vols I and II). Publisher's green half morocco, gilt pictorial boards, gilt edges (extremities slightly rubbed). [With:] Supplement to the 'Birds of New Zealand'. London: 1905. 2 vols, large 4° (381 x 282mm). Engraved frontispiece portrait in vol. I, 12 coloured plates and numerous text illustrations. (Frontispiece spotted, plates X and XI misbound). Contemporary dark green half morocco, spine gilt in compartments (spines faded to brown, endpapers browned).
SECOND, ENLARGED EDITION, ONE OF 1000 COPIES, with considerable alterations and additions to the first edition. The plates, for example, were remade rather than simply being reissues of the first edition. Nissen IVB, 163; Sitwell p.85; Anker 85; Hocken p.386. (4)
