Lot Essay

The sitter is possibly a sister of Jane Brooke (see previous lot). Peter Brooke and his second wife Elizabeth had two other daughters; Elizabeth who married Randle Ford of Wrexham, Buckinghamshire, on 13 December 1785, and Frances, who married Thomas Oliver of Leytonstone on 20 December 1786.
