Lot Essay

The present works are superb workshop replicas of paintings by Boucher known through a pair of engravings by Marie-Madeleine Igonet (see AA 413/4 & 414/4). The original canvas of La petite Beurrière is lost; the original of La petite Fermière, signed and dated 1752, was offered at Sotheby's, New York, 19 May 1994, lot 79.
