Joy Mallari contrasts the warmth of humanity particularly the feminine side against the technocratic world of today. In ?Beautiful Glitch, a painting with a digital video counterpart, the artist shows a girl caught up within a cyberscape. Within this landscape of interruptions lies scattered shards of data - bits of information which make up a switching portal of images. There is beauty in this prism of broken light. The 'glitch' could very well be the representation of a different order. Overlaying this ground is a series of portraits of a girl who is there to deliver a subliminal message. Underneath the painting is installed a video screen; the succession of flickering images reveals what the still portraits in the painting are saying. She is silently uttering the word "Beautiful".
