RARE FIRST ISSUE OF THE FIRST SEPARATE ESTIENNE EDITION OF HOMER. There are no copies either in the Paris Bibliothèque Nationale or in the Geneva Bibliothèque Publique et Universitaire. The two volumes were available separately, and this first volume containing the Iliad is complete in itself. It has "probably the only" appearance on a title-page of the xylographic Greek signature of Henri Estienne (Schreiber); the present copy has the first issue title-page, dated 1588. Adams H-768; Brunet III, 272; cf. Schreiber 218 (1589 issue title, 'Very rare edition').
