Lot Essay

In September 1964, the Cavern Club hosted a five-day music event for Liverpool's Freedom From Hunger campaign. To help with the fundraising, sections of the old stage, which had just been refurbished by owner Ray McFall, were sold off as souvenirs. The demand for these 'Beatleboards', as they were called, came from all over the world.
