2o (354 x 232 mm). Engraved frontispiece after A. Bouisson and 100 engraved plates by and after Honoré Blanc, all with engraved captions. (Some light staining or spotting.) Contemporary red morocco, spine in 7 compartments with 6 raised bands gilt (rebacked preserving original spine, corners renewed, rubbed). Provenance: Le C. De Plelo (ownership inscription in ink on Preface); Unidentified institutional stamp (verso of title-page).

FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE (later re-issued with cancel title, adding Paris to imprint, in 1719). Pierre-Joseph Garidel was a medical doctor and Royal Professor of Anatomy at the University of Aix-en-Provence. He is known principally for the publication of this book: the first systematic botany of Provence. It contains the first detailed description of Provençal grapes & wines. Missing 18 numbered plates, (see Cleveland Collections) mostly as called for by Nissen, except with plates 43, 95, and 105 and 2 plates numbered "2", and lacking plates 45 and 107.
