PARTLY 17TH CENTURY
With curved hollow-ground single-edged blade double-edged towards the point and stamped with a mark involving a hand grasping a scimitar on one face, iron guard comprising grooved quillon-block, upper and lower side-rings, arms, downcurved rear-quillon and knuckle-guard, the latter each with small lion-head finial, the outer flats of the principle bars with scrolls engraved with lines in immitation of fur and heightened by brass pins (some braized joins visible to guard), inner-guard of slender bars and incorporating the thumb-ring, swelled leather-covered grip with brass foliate ferrules and central band, and lion-head pommel chiselled in relief with scrolls immitating fur heightened with brass pins
