Lot Essay

Charles Buteux l'aîné, later père, is recorded as a painter of trophies, figures and flowers at Sèvres from 1756-1782.

A similar tray with a green ground, also painted with a musical trophy by Buteux, was sold on behalf of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Christie's, New York, 7 June 2013, lot 399.
