With curved double-fuller blade, engraved to the forte with a hare on one side and anthropomorphic sun and moon on the other, the square applied with repoussé gold panels with recurring quatrefoils, with fluted domed quillons, the panels plain and the pommel with bands of foliate repoussé scrollworks and geometric forms, with leather scabbard mounted with gold repoussé medallions and plaques, fitted with two suspension ring and knots

Lot Essay

This sayf was given by Prince Mansour, son of King Abdulaziz al-Saud, to Sir Harold MacMichael GCMG, DSO, High Commissioner in Palestine (1938-44) in 1943.
