Lot Essay

"If I were..." is the question Yusuf Aygeç's asks himself before painting. As a member of the young generation of Turkish artists, Aygeç observes the cultural transitions and realises certain assimilations. Nowadays, one is inclining towards Pop art that is easier to observe and to enjoy, while striving to hold onto his her cultural roots. The artist chooses to reinterpret some old 'commodified' paintings to emphasise his journey towards reaching the 'popular'.
