A GREEK POTTERY TANKARD
LATE GEOMETRIC PERIOD IIB-IIA, CIRCA 750-725 B.C.
With a short biconical body and a tall flaring neck, the high arching strap handle joined to the body and the rim, decorated in brown slip, the neck with five panels, some with one and some with two water fowl beside a large crosshatched drop-shaped element, vertical bands and crosshatching in between, a band of zigzag below, the body with an undulating line framed by dots, water fowl above and below, chevrons on the rim, starbursts on the handle
