Lot Essay

The figure of the dead Christ at lower left is close to that in the Lamentation, a picture in the Harrach Collection at Schloss Rohrau, which is datable to circa 1620 (see S. Mason Rinaldi, Palma il Giovane 1548-1628: Disegni e dipinti, Milan, 1990, no. 287).
