Lot Essay

The time that Wolfe spent in Wales at Portmeirion enabled him to overcome his wartime depression ‘making contact again with the only thing that really mattered to him, his art.’ (J.R Taylor, op. cit., p. 56). His experiences there developed into a lasting affection for the Welsh landscape and continued to make trips there throughout the rest of his life.
