Lot Essay

This work forms part of a project documenting everyday life and the people of Salford, which L.S. Lowry and Riley jointly undertook. Bill Flood came from a family of chimneysweeps and is shown here with his dog Soot, who was frequently painted by Riley.

We are very grateful to Dr. Harold Riley for his assistance in cataloguing the present lot and lots 117-118.
