Lot Essay

With Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch with diamond hour markers and black dial in 1953 and its subsequent sale on November 17th of the same year.

To the best of our knowledge this watch has never before been offered in public.

The reference 2461, also called the 'Tegolone' replaced the reference 425 when it was launched in 1950. The 2461 is slightly larger than the 425 and consequently highly collectible for its larger size and rarity. A total of approximately 500 watches were made during the 15 years of production, with the majority in yellow gold and platinum.

The present watch features a black matte dial, and is the only known reference 2461 to have such a rare attribute. Fresh to the auction market, this vintage piece would find a prominent place in any fine collection.
