Lot Essay

Born in Barcelona, Meifrén was a Spanish Impressionist painter. He studied in Barcelona under the master painter Antoni Caba, as well as in Paris in the company of Ramòn Casas and Santiago Rusiñol. He is known primarily as a painter of marines and landscapes characterised by loose brushstrokes and gentle tones. The beginning of Meifrén's career coincided with the revival of the Catalan Renaissance and Modernism, however he never quite settled into this movement. His talent led him to travel half way around the world, unveiling his work in numerous cities in Europe and America.
