With its extensive use of chestnut, interior drawer design and inlaid ornament, this desk-and-bookcase was made in late eighteenth-century Rhode Island. Several Providence-made desk-and-bookcases feature drawers with similarly molded façades in the desk compartment while two examples with comparable mariner's-star inlay have Bristol origins (for Providence forms with related drawer fronts, see the Rhode Island Furniture Archive at the Yale University Art Gallery, RIF504, RIF1892, RIF2290, RIF4544; for related inlay, see RIF1642 and RIF2502).
