Lot Essay

Li Qiuyun was born in Zhenhai, Zhejiang province. While her first painting teacher was her elder brother, she later became the student and close friend of Zhang Daqian (1899-1983). Her landscape paintings were inspired by the tenth-century master Dong Yuan and Dong Qichang (1555-1636), while her portraits drew on Tang-dynasty style.
