Lot Essay

We are grateful to Fred Meijer of the RKD, The Hague, for endorsing an attribution to Peter van Kessel after inpection of the original painting. He points out that the flowers are comparable to a garland surrounding a stone cartouche with a chalice in the Staatsgalerie Bamberg, dated 1658.
