Lot Essay

It has been suggested by Guido de Werd that the ruin shows comparisons with the Vianden Castle in Luxembourg which Koekkoek often painted in the 1840s during his travels through Luxembourg in preparation for his series of Luxembourg landscapes commissioned by King Willem II.

We kindly thank drs. Guido the Werd for confirming the authenticity of the present work after firsthand examination.
