Lot Essay

Sir Benjamin Simpson served as Surgeon-General for the Government of India from 1853-1890. A keen amateur photographer, he produced a series of photographs of Kandahar in Afghanistan during the Second Afghan War of 1879-1880, which were marketed by Bourne & Shepherd.
