Lot Essay
The present lot relates to the compositions by Albani in the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Dijon, which is on copper and measures 19 x 14 cm., and another in the Louvre, which is on canvas and of slightly larger dimensions. Catherine Puglisi dates these works to c.1617-1620 (see C. Puglisi, Francesco Albani, New Haven and London, 1999, p. 140, nos. 53 and 53.V.a). A further version, listed as a copy by Puglisi, was exhibited at the Heim Gallery in London in 1968.
