3 parts in one volume, small 4° (203 x 150mm). Printer’s device on title, repeated on separate titles of part II & III, 303 woodcut devices, emblems and coats-of-arms, headpieces and initials. (Mainly marginal waterstaining, affecting text of some leaves, light, mainly marginal spotting or browning.) Contemporary vellum (lightly soiled, extremities a little bumped). Provenance: illegible stamp (on verso of title and lower margin of colophon) – A. H. Bright (bookplate).

FIRST EDITION. The majority of the clear woodcuts are oval in shape and deal with animals and plants. “The woodcuts are very delicate and charming” according to Landwehr, who adds that this work is "the first emblematic item to deal with flora and fauna, published three years before the books by Camerarius." Landwehr Romanic 203; Praz p. 296.
