4° (190 x 142 mm). Engraved title by T. de Bry, 90 engraved plates within engraved borders (32 surrounding emblematic engravings, 54 with armorial and the shield left blank and 4 left blank), one large woodcut initial and other smaller, woodcut head-piece. (Some staining and a heavier stain on plate titled Fraus Nocet Artifici, occasional light soiling.) Modern calf by Eedy, gilt covers, spine, turn-ins and edges. Provenance: Huth-Bright (booklabel) -- A.H. Bright (booklabel).

Second edition, THE HUTH-BRIGHT COPY, of the de Bry's first emblem book, in which the emblems are used as ornaments for Alba amicorum. First published in 1592 and reprinted in 1593, only a handful copies of the first edition are known. The contents of recorded copies of the present edition seems to vary in the number of plates: according to Praz two have 94 plates (copies in Bonn and Stuttgart), all others contain a varying number of plates: Thompson Yates 55 and Huth-Bright 90. Landwehr German, 153; Praz p. 289 (this copy).
