3 parts, 4° (206 x 145mm). Title in red and black, 101 emblems of which one unnumbered within elaborate woodcut borders. (Title soiled and stained, some browning, spotting, staining and waterstaining, marginal tear to 2C8.) Brown calf by Townsed, gilt spine and turn-ins (some light stains). Provenance: some ink annotations -- De Roafort (ownership inscription on title dated 1719).

Third edition of the first emblem book of Spanish origin. The first edition was published in Segovia by Juan de la Cuesta in 1589, it was then reprinted in Segovia in 1591. Landwehr Romanic, 396; Palau 116237; Praz p. 374; Salva 2081.
