2° (332 x 230mm). Woodcut title device. (Some dampstaining, some leaves lightly browned, title with an old repair in the lower margin, some scattered spotting.) Blue morocco, possibly by Derome, the sides with a gilt fillet border and centred with a gilt cross, spine compartments gilt with floral tools, red morocco label, edges marbled and gilt (spine and edges faded to brown, spine foot and label chipped, extremities rubbed). Provenance: Augustus Henry FitzRoy, third Duke of Grafton (1735-1811, Prime Minister; title inscription dated 1789) -- Edward Craven Hawtrey (1789-1862, Eton Headmaster; pencilled note recording the purchase at his sale) -- H.A. Bright (bookplate).

First Servetus edition of the Latin version translated by Sanctes Pagninus directly from the Hebrew and Greek. This edition was listed on the Index for Servetus's heretical commentary; Servetus was eventually arrested, at the insistence of Calvin, tried and killed for his anti-Trinitarian views. Darlow & Moule 6120.
