Lot Essay
'Each print is a square on which he [Marden] has superimposed a grid, the grid being different in each case. Using sticks dipped in sugar solution he began drawing directly onto the plate. The results were then proofed and fine lines were added in hardground. The Tile images were of a kind which Marden had been making on paper since 1973. He considers them as experimental prints because this was the first time he had drawn on plates using sticks.'
