Lot Essay

The elegant figure of Hebe offered here is a carved replica of Thorvaldsen's version carved in 1806 and housed in the Thorvaldsens Museum, Copenhagen. Hebe, the goddess of youth, was the daughter of Jupiter and Juno and was the cup-bearer to the gods who was often depicted serving wine and ambrosia at the immortals' lavish banquets.
