Lot Essay

Born in Baoying, Jiangsu, Tao Cheng lived during the Ming dynasty. An extremely learned scholar, he was skilled in composing poetry, painting, and seal carving. He painted landscapes and bird and flower compositions, as well as figures. Some of his works are in the collections of the Palace Museum, Beijing; the Shanghai Museum; and the National Palace Museum, Taipei.
