Lot Essay

This enormous table, of dense Cuban mahogany, is supported on legs with identical profile to numerous "Imperial dining table" sketches in Gillows' Estimate Sketch Books from c.1825 to c.1860. See also S. Stuart, Gillows of Lancaster and London 1730-1840, London, 2008, vol. I, pp. 244-246 for executed tables with identical legs and telescopic actions.
