A ROMAN SILVER PYXIS AND TWO DISHES
CIRCA 1ST CENTURY A.D.
The cylindrical pyxis with incised bands around the sides, the lid with central dome and concentric bands, pierced for attachment of chains to three leaf-shaped attachment plates with suspension loops on the upper body of the vessel, the underside of the base decorated with concentric circles; both dishes of shallow form with everted rim, the flat handles in the form of addorsed duck heads with delicate stippled feathers, a stylized palmette between, each on slightly raised ring base
Pyxis: 2 ½ in. (6.5 cm.) high
Dishes: 4 ¾ in. (12 cm.) diam. each
