A VERY LARGE WALRUS-IVORY HILTED DAGGER (KARD)
MADE FOR MIR MURAD 'ALI KHAN TALPUR, SINDH, NORTH WEST INDIA, DATED AH 1214/1799-1800 AD
The single-edged elegantly watered-steel blade tapering to point, the spine with a raised central ridge and a cusped palmette at the forte, the bifurcated hilt composed of two pieces of walrus ivory joined by four brass pins, the spine with a gold-inlaid band comprising cartouches at either end containing a signature and date, the central band with sura al-nasr and another signature, in contemporaneous leather-covered wooden sheath
