MARK OF WILLIAM SOLOMON, LONDON, 1754
Each on shaped circular, quilted base cast and chased with shells, the stem terminating in part-quilted baluster socket with gadroon-edged detachable nozzle, one nozzle engraved with a crest of an eagle displayed below an earl's coronet, the sockets later engraved with the same crest below a marquess's coronet, each numbered and engraved with scratch-weights 'No 4, 31:20' and 'No 5, 31:9:2'

Lot Essay

The crest is that of Browne, almost certainly that of John Denis Browne, 3rd Earl of Altamont and later 1st Marquess of Sligo (1756-1809).
