Lot Essay

This 'Cupid and Psyche' design of scenic wallpaper was first produced in the early 19th Century by Dufour et Cie, Paris. They were intended to be hung around a room as a continuous mural decoration, or framed in separate groups as pictures (as here), four related en grisaille wallpaper panels depicting Psyche au Bain (Psyche Bathing) of 1816 by Dufour et Cie, are held in the collection of The Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
