Lot Essay

For a small cup and saucer of this form, described as a 'tasse à toilette' see Tamara Préaud and Antoinette Faÿ-Hallé, Porcelaines de Vincennes, Les Origines de Sèvres, Exhibition Catalogue, Grand Palais, Paris, 1977-78, p. 115, no. 318. See David Peters, Sèvres Plates and Services of the 18th Century, Little Berkhamsted, 2005, Vol. I, p. 97 for the ampersand mark used by this unattributed painter who the author notes was a painter of birds active at Vincennes and Sevres from 1753 to 1761.
