Lot Essay

The deliberate inclusion of the inscription B/D S (?) concealed within the hatched ornament below a chair most likely refers to the Seuter workshop and the decoration may be the work of Batholomäus Seuter. Siegfried Ducret records several signed pieces from the Seuter workshop, see 'Augsburger Hausmalerei', Keramos, No. 37, July 1967, pp. 6-7, Abb. 3 & p. 26 & Abb. 29 & 30.
