CIRCA 1750-60, THE SILVER MOUNT 19TH CENTURY, STAMPED FOR ROME
Of circular form, decorated with elegant figures after Watteau, before churches and castles in wooded landscapes, the interior of the cover with figures before an obelisk-fountain and castle, within pink rocailles and panted with scattered flower-sprays (very minor scratching to enamels)
3 ¼ in. (8.2 cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

The same castle appears from different perspectives on both the top and the underside of the cover of this snuff-box and can also be seen on a rectangular Meissen box which is illustrated by Barbara Beaucamp-Markowsy, Boîtes en Porcelaines, des manufactures européenes au 18e siècle, Fribourg, 1985, p. 122, no. 91.
