MARK OF ELKINGTON AND CO., BIRMINGHAM, 1860
Compressed circular and on spreading foot, chased with Celtic knots and foliage scrolls on a matted ground, the rim similarly applied, the detachable cover with spire finial, engraved with an inscription, marked under rim and inside cover, the base further engraved 'Elkington & Co Silversmiths &c &c; 22 Regent St.'

45 oz. 3 dwt. (1,405 gr.)
The inscription reads 'To Victor Albert William Welby from his Godmother Victoria R. 1864'.

Given by Queen Victoria (r.1837-1901) to her godson Victor Albert William Welby (1864-1876), eldest son of Sir William Earle Welby-Gregory 4th Bt. (1829-1898) and his wife the Honourable Victoria Alexandrina Maria Louisa Stuart (1837-1912), Maid of Honour to Queen Victoria, and then by descent.
