Lot Essay
The sculptor-modeller and decorator Léopold-Jules-Joseph Gély joined the Sèvres manufactory in 1851 at the age of 31, and quickly became an early pioneer of the pâte-sur-pâte technique. In 1887, to the great regret of the administrator Théodore Deck, Gély applied for retirement. The present lot must therefore amongst his final pieces for the factory.
