Lot Essay

The present portraits are versions of Ramsay's celebrated portrait types of King George III and Queen Charlotte, of which the prime originals are respectively in the Royal Collection (see O. Millar, Later Georgian Pictures in the Collection of Her Majesty the Queen, London, 1969, I, p. 95, no. 996); and in the Schloss Wilhelmshöhe, Kassel.
