Lot Essay

The design of the present carpet is taken from a late 16th century Mughal pictorial carpet in the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, accession no 93.1480. The carpet was first published in Sarre and Trenkwald, Old Oriental Carpets, Vienna and Liepzig, 1926 pl. 59.
