Lot Essay

These views were probably painted in or around the area of Ngotshe, northern KwaZulu-Natal, and probably in the Ithala Game Reserve. Dr. G.H. Wildish lived and worked in this area as the District Surgeon in Eshowe, his marriage was recorded in Ngotshe in 1908 and he also published research papers, such as the 'Antimony in Leprosy' for the Oxford Journals in 1922. These atmospheric paintings were probably made during his retirement in the late 1940s.
