STORIA DI UN'AMICIZIA: OPERE SCELTE DALLA COLLEZIONE ALBERTO RIOLO, MILANO HISTORY OF A FRIENDSHIP: SELECTED WORKS FROM ALBERTO RIOLO COLLECTION, MILAN Le opere che vengono presentate in questa sezione provengono dalla collezione privata di un intimo amico di Fausto Melotti, che alla raccolta delle opere del Maestro ha dedicato tanta parte della sua vita. Offerti per la prima volta sul mercato, questi lavori sono la testimonianza di un appassionato percorso di vita, di amicizia e di rigore collezionistico. "Alberto Riolo nasce a Milano nel 1933 e sin da fanciullo rivela una notevole predisposizione al lavoro manuale, arte che contraddistingue tutta la sua vita lavorativa e di "pittore". Iniziò a dipingere da adolescente, per esprimere le prime ribellioni che nascono in quell'età, ma è sicuramente durante gli anni dell'università che il rapporto con l'arte prende forma in modo concreto: Riolo ha l'opportunità di frequentare persone che hanno una spiccata sensibilità artistica e amano circondarsi di giovani artisti, in una sorta di salotto culturale milanese. Dopo la laurea e la specialità in odontoiatria il lavoro assorbì gran parte del suo tempo, ma senza tuttavia togliere il piacere di dedicarsi alla "sua" pittura: fu proprio grazie al suo lavoro che ebbe modo di incontrare Fausto Melotti, che bisognoso di cure medico dentistiche fu presentato a mio marito da un comune amico. La frequentazione con Fausto Melotti trasformò la stima ed il rispetto reciproci in una sicura amicizia, che influenzò anche la pittura di Alberto, arricchendola di materiali e nuovi equilibri tanto che, alla fine degli anni Settanta, si concretizzò in una sua personale presso la Galleria Tornabuoni di Firenze. L'amicizia sincera tra Alberto e Fausto Melotti si protrasse negli anni, sino alla scomparsa del maestro nel 1986, ed è raccontata nelle opere che gli artisti si sono scambiati nel corso degli anni. Opere sognanti e delicate, come Viaggio nella luna, ed opere malinconiche e struggenti, come Preghiera per i bambini ebrei morti nei campi di sterminio, affollano negli anni il salotto di casa nostra, costellate di piccoli capolavori in equilibrio e leggerezza che testimoniano la profonda padronanza dei materiali dello scultore, raccontando un'amicizia che è rimasta viva in quelle opere molto amate, che ora vengono affidate al mondo, come volontà di Alberto, affinché siano ancor più conosciute ed apprezzate nel ricordo del dottor Alberto Riolo, che col suo lavoro "faceva più bello" Fausto Melotti. Mabi Moro Riolo The works presented in this section come from the private collection of a close friend of Fausto Melotti who spent much of his life collecting his works. Offered for the first time on the market, these works are a statement of a passionate interweaving of life, friendship, and a talent for collecting. "Alberto Riolo was born in Milan in 1933. Since he was a child, he demonstrated a remarkable predisposition to manual labor, an art that characterized his entire working life as well as his career as a painter. He began to paint as an adolescent, in order to express his early feelings of teenage rebellion, but it was certainly during his university years that his relationship with art took form in a more concrete way: Riolo had the opportunity to meet people with a strong artistic sensibility with a tendancy to surrounding themselves with other young artists, in a sort of cultural gathering in Milan. After graduating with a degree in Orthodontics, his work took up most of his time, but without, however, taking away from the pleasure he found in the dedication to 'his' painting. It was thanks to his work that Alberto was able to meet Fausto Melotti, who was in need of a dental care at the time. As he met Melotti, a reciprocal friendship of esteem and respect formed between the two, that influenced Alberto's painting, enriching materials and new balances so much that, by the end of the 1970s, Alberto had his first solo show at the Galleria Tornabuoni in Florence. The sincere friendship between Alberto and the Maestro Melotti would last for years, until Melotti's death in 1986 and is represented by the works the two artists have shared during the years.
