Decorated with a border of stylised blue and gilt flowerheads and grass fronds between red and gilt-line arched borders entwined with a berried garland, below a blue-ground border with gilt dot and trelliswork ornament, gilt dentil rims (minor wear to gilding)

Lot Essay

Charles-Louis Méraud was a painter of flowers and patterns at Sèvres from 1756 to 1780. For a small cup and saucer and tray dated 1763 and with the same border design see Marie-Noël Pinot de Villechenon, Sèvres Porcelain from the Sèvres Museum 1740 to the Present Day, Paris, 1993, p. 35, fig. 34.
